BLACK LIVES MATTER. LGBTQ LIVES MATTER. INDIGENOUS LIVES MATTER. IMMIGRANT LIVES MATTER. LIVING WITH DISABILITY LIVES MATTER. ASIAN AMERICANS AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS LIVES MATTER. LIVING IN HOMELESSNESS LIVES MATTER. HISPANIC AND LATINX LIVES MATTER.

We acknowledge and recognize that we are on the ancestral lands and traditional home of the sx̌ʷəbabš Coast Salish Native People, the first people of Vashon Island. This land was their home for millennia before Euro-American voyagers and settlers came and they were forcibly removed from these lands and relocated onto neighboring Reservations, including Puyallup, Nisqually, Squaxin Island, and Muckleshoot. Vashon Island is their traditional home and their historical relationship with the land continues today. We honor the island itself and the sx̌ʷəbabš people past and present.

Please look for registration beginning February 2026, for the 2026-27 school year.

Reflections of the week and moving forward in commitment as a Montessori ABAR (Anti Bias Anti Racism) Multiage Early Education School:

Our Klahanie School daily practices will remain focused on building daily, as a collective group: Respect, Equity, Justice, Peace & Collaboration to Harmony and Love.  This week we decided as a staff to begin a Gratitude Sharing when friends go beyond what is asked of them to help and support another in school and environment, and when that is reported and/or observed, a note will be created for our “kindness mailbox” we will read at the end of the day during our daily gratitude round, and send home with friends who can share with family about their Kindness Shared.

The habitat of kindness we create here at Klahanie School is our commitment to our daily work-practice, one step at a precious time to showcase the kindness, explorations of the past, cultures locally, nationally and globally and ancestors, the thoughtfulness of observations and movements to celebrate when a person sensory intakes and thinks about the larger group to share, to collaborate, to find joy and fun together into innovations and independent society co-created in the classroom and hopefully imprinted neurological pathway to utilize further down the learning road.  We build a better world in each simple and tiny footed, hand held stepping forward practice towards respect, accountability, ability to sit in the discomforts of resolutions, and reflection on how to do things differently next time or repeated results.  We are our own lab for peace building one sensory, learning moment and movement at a time.

We as a school celebrate you all and the love you share with your children and the community we collectively tend together, and are here to shore up in times of angst or uncertainties.  Our school commitment is to have consistency and presence of kindness, empathy, availability and warmth.  The focus is on the now and on the youth of all age scope we love so dearly and a consistent commitment to serve and support.  Our kindness ship will support and anchor us safely during the larger, rougher waters.  We got this, together in held hands.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his wife Coretta Scott King and Civil Rights Movement family modeling movement, the clarity of locked arms in respect, equity, resiliency and peace movement for change within unjust laws constraints. We as an independent, intimate Montessori Antibias Early Childhood Education space, are committed today and days forward to show activisms for respect and equity onward from these essential seeds of learnings of the past from activism movements of groups through hope and connection-teamwork intention, and the now of what we can do daily in hope and respect movements helping your neighbor, whomever and wherever they come from. What we can do as a school community rippling out daily accountabilities shown response in kindness, respect, inclusion, equity, resiliency and for empowerment teamwork change in communities locally, nationally and globally through pause to learn and grow.
